'The Secrets We Keep' - Shirley Patton book launch

Thu 12th April

Petrarch's Bookshop - 89 Brisbane Street, Launceston

Looking for something a little different to do mid week whilst in town? Then head along to this book launch at the wonderful Petrach’s Bookshop in the heart of the city. Patton is a Launceston based author and ‘The Secrets We Keep’ is her debut novel. “When social worker Aimee blows into the mining town of Kalgoorlie she unwittingly uncovers a web of lies and a heartbreaking tie with her tumultuous past in this compelling family saga where the personal and political collide. A mother's secret, a father's betrayal, a town on the edge… Aimee has a dark secret and as the past reaches out towards her once more, she realises that somehow her secret is connected to this unfamiliar but harshly beautiful town and its inhabitants. A compelling novel of the transcendental love of children and the truth's unwillingness to stay hidden”.

Mirror Mirror - Stompin' Dance

From Wed 18th April to Sun 22nd April 2018

Please check Stompin' Dance website for session times.

Door of Hope - 50 Glen Dhu Street, South Launceston, Tasmania

This will be Stompin’s 2018 Major show and not to be missed. Mirror Mirror allows audience and dancers alike to confront themselves up close and personal. Do not take this dance ‘show’ for one of just pure entertainment, allow it to help you dig deeper and examine yourself amidst the social construct of mass media that surrounds our every day society.

Stompin began in Launceston in 1992 “with the idea that when young people collaborate with professional artists they can create inspiring, bold and relevant new dance works. Stompin involves young people in every aspect of our creative process, from conception to realisation. Stompin shifts dance out of traditional performance venues and into atypical landscapes, introducing contemporary dance to a range of people previously unexposed to it”.

“For over 25 years Stompin has had a positive impact on the lives of more than 5000 young people from a diverse cross section of the community. Stompin dancers have performed to over 20,000 people locally, nationally and internationally and many of our alumni contribute meaningfully to Australia’s current artistic landscape”.

McKenney and Hayes are two of the biggest names in the Australian musical scene; they have delighted for decades with charm and talent on stage. Bosom Buddies brings them together to share with an audience stories that reflect their life on stage, backstage secrets and the highs and lows of their dancing and singing careers. They sing, they dance and they reminisce. Together they make a powerful duo. Audience members will also have a chance to ask them questions live during the performance.
